Since 2010, SurveyorConnect has provided free discussion forums to the Land Surveying community.
SurveyorConnect is a peer-to-peer platform providing community-based discussions and support for Land Surveyors and Geomatics Professionals all over the world. Our goal is to serve and support people that know and love Surveying and related topics, so they can keep up-to-date in their industry, while learning more, and getting more work done.
The numbers speak for themselves

Who is SurveyorConnect?
SurveyorConnect is a website for Land Surveyors built by a Land Surveyor with 26 years of experience.
SurveyorConnect was created by Wendell Harness, a Land Surveyor for 26 years in Oregon, Arizona and California. He has since moved on to building and maintaining websites for small businesses. But he’s still passionate about surveying and its strong community. He has always been — and will always be — a Land Surveyor at heart.
Angel Lynn is our Forum Moderator and Social Media Manager. She helps keep a tight ship, by performing a wide variety of duties. She also puts up with Wendell and all of his sometimes-difficult-but-always-lovable surveying friends.
It’s the people.
SurveyorConnect was built because people needed help fixing a problem with the state of online surveying forums. “Build it and they will come,” said Kent McMillan, a surveyor and friend from Austin, Texas. He approached Wendell in 2010 with the backing of a handful of other surveyors hoping for something to replace POB’s failed attempt at modernizing rpls.com.
In only two days, we acquired beerleg.com and built a rudimentary discussion forum. We didn’t expect the project to go far because we figured everyone would simply digress and accept the new rpls.com. We were wrong.
People showed up, literally overnight, and began interacting with one another. Soon, they were asking for a way to donate “beer money” so the new site could survive in perpetuity.
Now look at us. We are a success because of the people.
June 28, 2010: Parol Evidence
Upset about POB Magazine’s decision to move rpls.com to a new format, several people contacted us about starting a new surveying forum. They weren’t happy that POB was ignoring their concerns and they knew that Wendell would be able to come up with something.
June 30, 2010: BeerLeg.com launches
Just two days after the idea was proposed, SurveyorConnect was soft-launched as “BeerLeg” at beerleg.com. The slogan? “We’re On Line.” The official hard launch was the very next day after working nearly 24 hours to fix bugs and tweak settings with the help of our beta users. We appreciate you.
August 15, 2010: Corporate firewalls force change
After less than 2 months, we changed the domain name to SurveyorConnect.com due to reports from our users that their corporate firewalls were blocking beerleg.com. To this day, you can still reach SurveyorConnect by going to beerleg.com.
April 15, 2011: The 1st “BeerLegger”
For our first BeerLegger meet-up, we were in Portland, Oregon, where we met Grant and Kathy Brady. Jered McGrath, Mike Berry and a few other surveying legends joined us for a great time.
October 15, 2012: P&R goes bye bye
We tried. It was a valiant effort. Due to the abuse of our community forums by those who would push their political and religious ideals, we made the decision to shut down the P&R category. Not only did our forums become friendlier, but site traffic increased as previous members discovered a more serene environment.
May 27, 2016: 10k Facebook likes
While we aren’t super fond of social media in general (due to privacy concerns), we do share our publicly-available forum posts to our Facebook page to help people find us. It’s a great feeling when a community you are passionate about hits 10,000 likes.
June 20, 2016: Third time’s the charm
It’s a long story. But essentially we needed to move to a new brand name for legal and personal reasons. So we came up with rplstoday.com and it stuck — for awhile.
February 5, 2019: 100k unique visitors in one month
For the first time, our website tops 100,000 unique visitors in a 30-day period. Wow!
April 25, 2020: 10k registered members
It took us awhile to reach 10,000 registered users, but certainly not due to lack of popularity. Our strong determination to stop spammers and other bogus users means that our population of members are high-quality and industry-specific. Numbers don’t mean anything if they aren’t accurate, legitimate numbers.
June 30, 2020: Ten years of amazing surveyors
At this point in time, it had already been a trend to abandon forum websites and move to places like Facebook groups. Then there’s COVID-19 and the big nightly riots — yet SurveyorConnect continues to grow and prosper. Whattaya say we go another 10?
December 25, 2020: Back to SurveyorConnect
Happy holidays! Now that the dust has settled on some legal troubles we dealt with in 2016, we were able to return to the SurveyorConnect brand name. During those last few years, many folks asked us if we’d consider the change back because they preferred the SurveyorConnect name. In early December, we ran a poll and the answer was clear. And so here we are.
