Prices are skyrocketing just as everyone decides to finally do something
Most nations no longer have the ability to entirely produce anything within their borders and have no option but to wait and pay the higher prices. It's like no one saw it coming.

I don't think there is any real shortage of anything. When all that extra money entered the economy business owners and the billionaires at the top decided they weren't about to lose their position, so they raised the price of everything to vacuum it up. I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing if I was in their position. The same thing happens when the minimum wage gets increased.
When you need a specific item and you need it NOW, buying it at a higher price is far superior to not being able to get it at all. Many things in this world must be done within a narrow time window. Such items are absolutely critical.
During WWII there was a huge shortage of tires and tubes for general population vehicles. Driving was minimized due to the potential for not being able to return due to a blowout. Commerce was greatly impacted. I recall a fellow who was a grade school student during WWII telling me of the time he went with his parents on a round trip of less than 40 miles on paved roads. They had to stop, dismount, disassemble, patch the tube, reassemble, remount various tires seven times before they arrived home.
