Has anyone pulled the trigger on the Emlid system yet?
I bought two of the Emlid RS2 units last fall. Currently I use one as a network rover using FieldGenius on a Windows Mobile 6.1 collector (MicroSurvey DC6), set up as basic NMEA device. There is a latency issue as it takes 10 to 15 seconds to get a good position, once the rod is still, however, I've received a link fix that latency issue but have yet to install it. I bought the units from Joe Douglas at E38 Survey Solutions and he provides great support. The latency issue does not exist in FieldGenius for Android according to a buddy who also has an RS2. He was running a trial version of FG on on $40 amazon tablet and it worked fine but he did end up running the RS2 with with his Carlson collector (don't know the collector model nor the Carlson software version but he is very happy with it and doesn't have the latency issue I'm seeing with the DC6) . When I tried FG for Android in January 2021, the program had no COGO functions (could only collect points) but I think that might have been resolved or will be soon... I haven't been following the updates...I'm trying to retire... 🙂
I have not yet tried the pair as a base-rover setup.
Battery life is amazing, two full days (16-18 hours) of field work is no problem. They are rugged units... the one I use has survived a fall to pavement from a Toyota Tundra roof and also survived a 6' pole drop to pavement with only one minor blemish.
If you respond to this post or have questions, it may take a few days for me to get back to you.
