Is my Topcon Legacy-E worthless since the GPS Rollover?
Posted by merlintruck12 on January 12, 2021 at 7:23 pmI’m just wondering if my Topcon Legacy-E with Glonass is a paper weight after the GPS Rollover. It has an “E_GGD” board that is currently running Firmware Version 3.3 Jul, 10, 2008 p4. I logged into Topcon’s support page and it showed the Legacy-E to be “End of Life”. I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything I could do before tossing it. I really appreciate any advice.

I still use one as a back up base and static. Just update to the latest firmware and it will work fine. Don’t dump it you might need it someday as a backup.
@totalsurv Do you happen to have a link to the latest firmware? The Topcon Link I have just says “End of Life” with no option to download firmware.
Thanks
I??ve just brought one of these kits any help in setting it up?
I have 3 Trimble R10’s and a Trimble Alloy that I usually use. But, I also have 3 5700’s, 2 4700’s, 2 R8’s, and an R7 that we use when we need more receivers. The 5700’s and 4700’s produce data files with the wrong GPS week, but that is fixable, I wrote a program to do that or one can just edit a rinex file.
I still get great results out of those old receivers, and I don’t feel as nervous leaving them unattended
@merlintruck12 send me your email address and I will send the firmware to you.
I have a pair of old topcon Hipers, original before glonass units. I want o start leaving them around for GPSonBenchamrks work throughout this year to help out. Wondering if I should update the firmware before logging files.
I always thought the most current firmware issues were most important for RTK work – not so much static. Maybe not.
My Legacy E only tracks 3 glonass satellites (in addition to the full constellation of GPS). I don’t think that was always the case. It seems to be rollover related. I don’t think is always the same 3 either; but, rarely more than 3. I quit using as a base, but still use it for static.
In regards of FW update to fix rollover issue, only Legacy E+ is eligible and Legacy E is obsolete.
If you can connect the Legacy E to TRU (Topcon Receiver Utility), look at info under Receiver Managing and see what board version it has. If it says something like HGGDT, there is a firmware update for it that will correct the GPS week rollover issue.
@surveyor-ken any chance of the link too?
Did you get any help? I am setting up a pair myself, would really appreciate any help
@surveyor-ken please send to [email protected]
@surveyor-ken please send to [email protected]
mine is Eurocard with Euro_3 board and Firmware version 2.3 Apr 28 2004 p4
I’ve got 2 legacy E units. Base and rover. Lovely units. With antennas, and wires.
I guess I’ve saved them for backups. Antiques. They can still be do work.

@surveyor-ken can you send me too? [email protected]
For static data collection week rollover is not a big deal. An easy fix with a text editor. (Export to rinex, search and replace.) I??ve been doing that years with my Z-XII. I still use my Z-XIIs quite a bit.
(and I found a firmware update for ZSurveyors.)
Legacy-E is still a great receiver. Attached latest firmware from Topcon
@surveyor-ken Do you have firmware for Legacy-E GGD Model ?
