South G6 or RUID R6 GNSS experience

Anyone use South G6 or the Ruid R6 GNSS for RTK alone with a Network Service? I am going to be using on along with SurvCe GPS software

I??m Using a South Galaxy G1 plus 336 ch in Belgium as a rover on rtk vrs 4 constallation. It uses a trimble bd990 board. Software is survce (gnss only) on a leica cs15 controller. I do not use the imu…you have to calibrate every time on startup. But for its price it works great. Do not know the difference with a G6, but i think they use the same trimble board for the 336 ch.
We have South S82V now back up, and G1 basic base and rover with X11 controller, Survce 5. Very budget conscious company. We had an issue with S82V base radio, it was replaced. No issues with the G1, except needed permanent code/ license set at three months.
Possibly looking at G6 IMU upgrade. But it is more expensive, bit heavier with IMU and dual battery? Not sure about UHF antenna on top of receiver, in the some of the conditions that we work.
Is there much price difference between the South and Ruide? What about dealer, support?
The other option in our remote country is the Stonex S900A.

I am interested in running the South or Ruide with my Topcon FC500 that has SurvCe . at this minute I only have TS (total station) but in a few weeks I am going to pay about $1,000.00 and get the GPS upgrade. I see that the SurvCe supports South G1 (I see them for $2,880.00+/- on Ebay) and G6 ($4,800 on Ebay) and Ruide. I am hoping that to purchase a local “Network Service” and do work collecting survey grade data with the South G1 . I hope that the unit will produce data that is within 3 CM. in open canopy ? Do you think that is realistic?

No way I’d be buying a GNSS receiver through eBay, it is something that requires dealer support (and knowing the product is genuine) unless you have endless time to get it up and running/troubleshoot. Using GNSS is very different to total station in terms of managing errors etc (as it’s hard to tell from your post but your question suggests not a lot of GNSS experience).
GNSS use as much art/experience as technical/scientific vs total station being mostly technical/scientific. Both NGS in USA and NRCAN in Canada have rtk gnss guides worth downloading and understanding before launching into GNSS use.
Have demoed a South g1s using network rtk here in NZ I got similar results to older gps/glonass Trimble r8s I’d used but only a carpark test. Never heard of the other one.
Whether you can achieve 3cm; that is a question of network rtk base spacings, atmospheric conditions, vegetation coverage, multipath, satellite geometry.etc..etc…..
Also not sure where in the world you are, if north America then get in touch with Mark Silver from Igage who advertises on this site. If elsewhere then look for a local dealer who sells (and supports!!) something on this list http://survce.com/supportedHardware
Pretty much everything on the market has the same specs, it’s more about having dealer support and learning the tools limits.
With my g1 plus i have with Gps/Glo/Gal/Bei in Belgium in open sky On average a 30 sats in sight and on the vrs network flepos i get mostly the typical 8 mm horizontal and 15 mm vertical Rtk accuracy. But your network basestations or vrs stations must also receive the 4 constallation to get benefit of Galileo or Beidou. When the 4 const here was up and running i do my surveys with gnss and only have to use the total station for the laser part of the survey minus the very dense wood situations.
Check the specifications. We run the G1-s that is dual frequency, and 220 channels, no tilt/ e-bubble. The G1 Plus is triple and usually 336 channels.
Some of the newer units, such as the Stonex have 800 channels.
The G6 on ebay may not be the new 2020 model, with latest board, firmware and IMU.
Yes, like the X-pad android software. Their gear is a little more expensive.
Has anyone tried using Trimble controller software with the G1 or G6?
Running a G1 or G6 on Trimble software will not work i guess. But survCE will work on Trimble TSC3 dc http://www.survce.com/supportedHardware
So you can run survCE on a Trimble datacollector with a South G1, G1+ or a G6 antenna.
The G1 & G6 spec sheet states the data format:
“Static data format: STH, Rinex2.x and Rinex3.x etc
Differential data format: CMR+, CMRx, RTCM 2.1, RTCM 2.3, RTCM 3.0, RTCM 3.1, RTCM 3.2
GPS output data format: NMEA 0183, PJK plane coordinates, binary code, Trimble GSOF
Network model support: VRS, FKP, MAC, supporting NTRIP protocol”The G1 has the Trimble BD970 board in it and communicates the proprietary Trimble GSOF format, one may assume the G1 will communicate with Trimble Access and TerraSync but there is no documentation supporting whether it does or not. So it’s a bit of a mystery until a real person can confirm it. I would be nice to figure this out somehow.
Many of the projects we do is for the government, they require most of gnss files submitted in the encrypted Trimble formats so they can verify the data.
Yes but the trimble terrasync will not recognise/configure or connect to the G1 receiver
Is this a known fact by experience? Or assumed? The Why would the GSOF data format be listed in the G1 spec sheet, with the fact Trimble GSOF format only works with Trimble software? Makes no sense…
I too am curious, and considering getting a couple of these G1 units. But I too am confined to using Trimble TerraSync & Pathfinder Office.
Reading the specification documents it appears that it might work, has anybody tried connecting the G1 to TerraSync?
@ttt242 Isn’t the antenna parameters configurable in the Configuration Manger?
