We've just learned this morning that our dear RADU, Richard Abbott, has passed. He was a great gift to the surveying community, and we will miss him. But even more than that, he was a brilliant man that brought smiles everywhere he went.

May he rest in peace.

From a post this morning by Leighton Rutt in the Baby Boomers 4 Our Australia group on Facebook:

Good evening friends.
I have some very sad news, that was just given to me via a phone call from Adelaide.
Our dear friend, Richard Abbott, the founder of the group, Baby Boomers for our Australia, passed away peacefully last night.
His battle lasted long and hard, however it finally caught up with him.
My thoughts and I know your sentiments will be with his wife Yolanta, and family.
As soon as funeral arrangements are known, I shall pass the information to you all.

Deepest condolences to you all and his family and friends.

you can always tell how special someone was in the ways that they talk about you after you're gone.

He will be missed.  So glad I got to meet him and have a lunch.   I often use his "bleeding edge of technology" phrase.

This breaks my heart. He was 100% graded A surveyor and a true gentleman. Rest in peace Richard Abbot from Down Under

I always enjoyed RADU's posts about surveying down under.  I particularly learned from his posts on the process and requirements for licensure in Australia.  Saddened to hear of his passing.
