GeoTiff image sources
Posted by brad-ott on December 7, 2021 at 3:33 pmI usually have been (successfully for years now) downloading the ??large-ish? GeoTiff files for my land surveying business uses from this site:
http://gisdb.uits.indiana.edu/singlefile/map/m10000.html
But, my old Win 7 laptop crashed recently, and my new Win11 machine is not downloading the files like before.
I really do not get any error messages, per se. When I click on the file I want to download, the edge r chrome browsers just open a new tab with the filename path and nothing else happens.
Is there a better site I should be going to?
Is there some Win11 action that I am missing?
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

try to right click on file and chose “save linked content as”, then chose location. Just a thought.
after futher review, looks like webiste has path problems.
Might just be coincidental that they are having trouble at the same time I had to upgrade my pc.
Here is a sample of what I see in a new tab when I click a file to download. I wish there were some right click trick…
PATH_INFO=/state/2016/geotiff/statewide/in2016_02201655_12.zip
Also, tried the right click save as trick and get this:
I may be missing something here but have you tried unzipping that zipped folder first?
Maybe try temporarily disabling you pop up blocker.
Willylooks like you may need to create account to download.

hope this helps.
My old Land Development Desktop(LDD Autocad) wouldn’t accept SID files anymore from the State Library. I assumed the site had “upgraded” to a new version of SID. I started using Google Earth images instead. They are better quality, and several years of old imagery are available. Having to insert them at the right scale (I kind of figured out) and translating them to whatever grid I want takes a little time, but I haven’t looked back. Google Earth seems to have more competent people running their site than most Government sites.
If your problem started today it might be because Amazon web services has a server down that is affecting their east coast region. Perhaps the website was using this server.
@skeeter1996 this looks promising, if I only had the correct modules enabled…
@brad-ott When I go to the main page, it says that single-file and data directory downloads have been deprecated and you should use the Multi-file Download tool. Have you tried that yet?
I’m just one of those evil GIS people. Bwah-hah-hah! Seriously, I do coordinate systems and transformations at Esri.@brad-ott A Carlson Salesman demonstrated that to me and it looked pretty slick, but I could never get it to work for me. I think you have to set up the datum first to make it work, which he never showed me.
Just registered and downloaded as a test.
When selecting files you are using the “check box” to select, then click on submit button at page bottom.
It says it will send email notification when zip file ready to download.
Clicked on link to download in conformation email.
This just in from the state. Thanks to everyone here, too:
Hi Brad,
Here are a couple of alternative sites to download the imagery.
Ortho DEM Download Story App ?? Contains compressed ECW compressed imagery tiles organized by county. These can be easily downloaded for the entire county.
https://lidar.jinha.org/ – Contains Tiled GeoTifs. These can be easily downloaded for specific areas of interest, one tile at a time.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding these resources?
More from the state, just as many of you have tried to tell me (and since I already had a login and was trying my old single file download procedures, I now understand better):
Dear Brad,
The single-file download tool had to be deprecated at the beginning of November
after changes made to the file management system ISDP connects to. You will now
need to use the multi-file download tool for all downloads, which requires a
login. Instead of clicking the filenames, for this download tool you will
select the file or files using the checkboxes to the left of the file names.
The tool can be accessed through ISDP here:
https://gis.iu.edu/downloads/index.html.
Once you create a new user account, the system will send you an email with a
new temporary password. I recommend copying and pasting the temporary password.
It will then prompt you to create a new password and ask you to accept terms.
After you accept the terms, the page will stay the same- please close that
window and login to the site in a new incognito browser. Please let me know if you have any questions or further issues,
