Tripod Data Systems TDS-480 Environmental Case
I came across one of these with no instructions. Anyone out there use one of these with an HP-48SX and have a manual?
it's been years and years, but from memory: there's a male plug in the case to connect to the HP48. Then 9 pin female connector outside the case to connect to the total station. You'll need a cable with 9 pin on one end and whatever connects to your total station.
I've given away at least 2, maybe 3 nine pin to heroshi cables over the years. The last time was like 15 years ago - Ralph still me a beer for that.
I'll leave editorial comments about 30 year old technology to others.
Thanks! I think that total station must have had a proprietary 9-pin that provided power to charge the NiCds since there is no other external plug to charge them. I'll keep my fingers crossed...
You plug the 4-pin connector inside the case into the top of the 48. You need a 9-pin cable between the environmental case and the total station. However, I don't believe you can use a 48sx as a data collector. I don't think it will talk to a total station.
Most every instrument maker requires a different cable to connect to the environmental case that holds the HP48.
It takes a null modem cable to connect the environmental case to the serial port on a computer and a program like Kermit, TDS or SMI Transfer to transfer data to and from the HP48.
The TDS environmental case has a 4 pin wired connector that plugs into the port on the top end of the HP48.
The difference between the HP48SX and the HP48GX is that the GX has two ports, one for a program card and one for a data card and the SX only has a port for a program card and uses internal storage only.
