Office Broken Into
Our office in Palm City, FL was broken into about two weeks ago. Most of our instruments were stolen.

Along with some chainsaws.
Be especially vigilant over the next few months. The bastards now know exactly where there will soon be a collection of brand new Trimble instruments, receivers, and other goodies.
Use to be all the field books were kept in a safe.
Now you need a safe big enough to keep all the high value equipment in.
We've got 5 security cameras and an alarm system. You need to unlock 6 locks, on 3 doors, to get in to turn off the alarm. The first door is a metal door with bars.
Thieves look for soft targets; line of least resistance, make it as hard as you can, and they'll go somewhere else.
In my experience, besides the chainsaws and drone the thieves probably don't have any idea what the other stuff is. We had a truck stolen a few years ago, they took all the hand tools, tripods, and radios then lit the truck on fire a few blocks away with our total station, and level in it.
Oh they know damn well what they got.
Check the pawn shops, Craigslist, OfferUp and Ebay.
They may also try to sell to nearest surveyor competitor and equipment dealers in the area.
I always assumed the equipment would be on the next flight to Eastern Europe since taking it into a dealer for any maintenance or software upgrades would mean the serial numbers would likely get flagged as stolen. Am I missing something?
