Can I Run A Leica TCRP-1203 with with Carlson Surveyor+ data collector?
Posted by Alan Cunningham on March 17, 2016 at 5:28 pmHi all! New to the Forum. Go easy on me.
We have a Leica Robotic total station (TCRP 1203) here at our office that never gets used. Long story short, our guys don’t like the Leica data collector that goes along with it (rx1250tc Running SurvCE). We have a Few extra Carlson Surveyor+ Data collectors laying around with SurvCE and the robotic software already installed on them. My question is: I know it’s possible to add an external long range Bluetooth antenna to these, But is it possible to run the Leica robotic total station with A Carlson Surveyor+ data collector with said long range Bluetooth antenna? I’ve been searching on-line all morning and have found very little information on the subject, and no information specific to my situation. Absolutely any information anyone could share on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!

I’m running a GeoMax Zoom80 (yellow version of the TCRP 1202) with a Surveyor+ fitted with a Parani SD1100 and loaded with SurvCE. It works great, no significant complaints.

It will depend on if you have the latest firmware available for your instrument and whether geo-com is turned on. I have a 1203 that is about 10 years old and had to have the firmware updated so that it would communicate using the RH16 bluetooth handle.

Classic Leica – best instruments, tribrachs and prisms in the business…. But they can’t make a decent data collector to save their life!!!!
I used the GAC 500 Bluetooth radios to talk with my Leica robot and Carlson Surveyor+ and they worked great. I purchased them from Geozone (Swiss Firm). Each are about the size of a pack of cigarettes – one at the instrument and one in your pocket.
I no longer have a robot and they are for sale.

It’s certainly possible, but perhaps a used Allegro with radio pod would make them happy and wouldn’t be as much of a hassle as a custom solution. I think your crews are being a bit picky. It’s true that in direct sunlight the color screen on the RX1250TC can be a little hard to see, but for the most part it’s a very rugged and capable data collector. What’s their main gripe?

Yes. Assuming SurvCE has whatever appropriate modules you want to use (robotics, specifically) enabled.
We use that setup. Bluetooth works to about 400 feet for the robotic.

With an external BT antenna you can multiply that by 4 or 5.
Alan, Did you find out the secret settings for connecting a Leica 1103+ to a Carlson Surveyor+? I have 10 1103’s and want a few to be connected to Carlson data collectors. Hope you figured it out! Thanks!

External BT radios are the easiest for that specific robot/controller combo. Regardless though your version of SurvCE has to have the robotics module activated.
An Allegro with integrated radio pod and 27b radio at the robot is less stuff to fuss with when setting up though.
