Didn’t want to add to the lengthy thread this was posted in..so what are you trying to prevent this..
It must be extremely bad there in AR this year because in a normal year it is very bad. I know that you arr an experience woodsman too.
In the summer of 1985 when I surveyed in the Ozark National Forest and other Ozark sites vagarious precautions were tried.
The most successful was wearing a long hiking sock and tucking the Levi pants legs into the socks and then wrapping the sock with masking tape around the calf in addition to spraying deep wood off on the Redwings and socks.. If you got into seed ticks, then you could unwrap some of the tape and use the tape to remove them. One of the problems was the waist port of entry. Hiking up and down hollows with a tripod on your shoulder made it difficult to keep a shirt tucked . The crew every day (remember rural AR 1985 ) after boxing it up would go find some cold Strohs at a local store and then head to a remote swimming hole or Beaver Lake. Every would strip down and delouse and take a cool dip like a bunch of primates. No, we did not delouse each other.. Hog Scald Holler was the local skinny dip area in a cove of Beaver Lake. Go delouse and go for a mile swim. Best physical condition that I was ever in .
Chiiggers were always a step ahead of you. I didn’t believe in the clorox or Pine Sol bath approach. I used the chigger-rid and nail polish treatment and then found that applying a little dab of Tiger Balm helped. Kept one of those little tins of Tiger Balm in my pocket. i’m sure that the clorox or Pine Sol worked because it was recommended by a few old moms of friends.
Once a friend from Louisiana came to the Ozarks and camped out with his dog. Somehow he got infested with chiggers and came to my house for advice. He showed up with an unbelievable amount of chigger bites. I told him that he needed the clorox bath treatment but I had just removed the bath tub during a bathroom remodeling and in true Ozark style, it was outside in the yard. I saw the expression in his face slowly tun to despair. I drove him to another friend’s hose for the bath. H” Hi, thsu is my friend A from LA, we need your tub to de-chiggger him”I know thta you hahave gad soem bad health issues with ticks, Take care of yourselves and others too.
The big think =g here is the skeeters now because of Zika. Neighbor brought over soem homemade natural ingredient repellent in a large spray bottle. You spray n the grass around the porches and entry doors. It seem to work!
