Yes,
No sorry, mine came setup with the Emlids I bought. That said, there is a help section within FG that shows you how plus videos at Microsurvey and youtube.
Are the emlids comparing to the more regular setups? Canopy fixes etc
I cant answer that but there are others here that could
I did the trial run of it on my phone for a bit while playing around with one of the South brand GPS units. Ended up putting the full software install on a Samsung tablet. It was a little finicky to get settings right for communication (both within Field Genuis and the GPS unit). When it was finally set-up correctly, the software worked pretty well for what it is designed for, just a little functionally different than the software I use on the regular.
An update was released and when I installed it, logging on to the network server stopped. I haven’t had time to play around with it to see what the issue is.
just released a new version 2.02.6610 to fix issues with receiving corrections. Just fyi in case anyone wants to upload
The new version also now can be used with total stations
Used it on my cellphone, running Leica GS18/GS10 base/rover. Also, ran the GS18 on Florida DOT network. The only problem I had was the obligatory spinning icon every few minutes (that would always require a forced system shut off).
I just downloaded the trial on my OnePlus 8 pro android phone….they do not list my Leica 1203+ only a couple conventional Leica total stations like the ts07 2 of our crews currently use….but they did list several Geomax robots. I tried the zoom 80 since it’s almost the same as what I have. It connected up first try, and reflectorless, laser pointer and IR shots worked as long as I pointed it at my prism. No robotic functionality so far but hopefully they will add this soon as long as they don’t get shut down.
For the 45 minutes or so I messed with it it crashed just about as often as the old windows 10 version I’ve been tortured by the last year. About 3 times it just froze and stopped responding.

I use one with Survce 5 and a Surveyor+ on the Topnet RTN. I call it a great “supplemental” GNSS. It’s good for:
-that crew that always break stuff
-logging static for PPP
-RTN work if you don’t care about adjusting vectors (ie. txt or csv only)
-you can’t afford a data collector (their software runs on your phone)
-you want to perform PPK along with your RTK
-if you verify your GNSS shots conventionally
-quad driving
It’s not good for:
-mixing with other brands
-coverage performance is somewhere between a BRX5 and a BRX7
-a BRX6/7 is only a little bit more but is far more refined, has full Survce support, and full tech support
-software s a bit flaky for downloading RINEX. I don’t even know how I would without OneDrive.
-only supported in Survce via NMEA
-software does topo and basic stakeout–no cogo
Good to support other equipment. Great bang for buck. I’d still get a BRX7 if running my own business. You get what you pay for. I would be mounting it on the quad or logging static with it to use in conjunction with the BRX7, though.
what do you mean ‘so long as they don’t get shut down’?
have had FG Android for almost a year – feel like an alpha tester – not ready for field. No access to the programmers to fix the problems, quirky support site, courteous support group, no apparent urgency to fix what appears to be a line of code to maybe make program usable. Not sure if the good people at Hexagon fit/support microsurvey. Lots of good things about FG Android to include the shell it is wrapped around – lots of bells and whistles, lots of libraries apparently compiled into the program, lots of time to get from one function to the next, lots of crashes, lots of willing support persons. No one appears to be in responsible charge.
would be interesting if someone would prepare a 2021/22 review of field data collection programs that support different manufacturers.
I don’t think hexagon gives them much help, maybe they just want people to buy Leica/captivate. Anyway they haven’t been able to fix any of the issues I had over the years and I’m still dealing with multiple every day on fieldgenius for Windows. I was able to get in touch with people who seemed to want to fix the problems but clearly didn’t have the resources to do so. I gave up on spending time trying to solve the issues.
I hope FG for Android turns out better but I have no reason to trust them at this point.
@hpalmer FGA is much more refined now. I’ve been using almost 2 years. The issues with program crashing is resolved. I haven’t experienced a crash since an update (early 2022? – can’t seem to remember now)
I do think the developers raced to put it on market too early. Seems to have the bugs (mostly) ironed out now.
They improve functionality with each update which is probably every 3 months even though they initially gave the impression it would be monthly updates.
