Reading old USGS level notes
Can anyone explain how the format of these USGS notes work? Primarily the numbers on the left side of the notes page. I appreciate any other tips or tricks that might help to better understand them.

Can anyone explain how the format of these USGS notes work? Primarily the numbers on the left side of the notes page. I appreciate any other tips or tricks that might help to better understand them.
I think the first two numbers are some kind of internal BS. I never found a use for them. Third number is distance from initial mark or start of the line.
I believe the first column is the field book and the second column is the page, I found this in a manual…
