11am
Caller, "looking for a surveyor to stake a house"
Me, "Ok, when?"
Caller, "today, you know, a robot staking"
Me, "today? It's almost noon, is this a house we have designed"
Caller, "no, my crew is waiting"
Me, "well, good luck finding someone, we are booked up till next week"
Haven't had one of those in a long time.
Around here it's more like "We're booked up 8 weeks out". Then they call back the next day because all the other surveyors told them 4-6 months....
With no foundation plan, a site map drawn on a napkin and no control within 1/2 mile!
When you tell him the surveyor that did the boundary would likely be quicker he says: Didn't need any survey! Just got a CAD exported from the county GIS picked off the "OFFICIAL CORNER" coordinates. Put them in the phone navigation app and set the corner hubs myself.
Had a guy call this afternoon wanting me to string a bunch of words on paper and sign it without a survey. Said all he needs is a legal description. Nope. Not gonna do it.
Truth is I could write it up now without even going to the field. Not gonna do it.
I surveyed the adjacent tract to the south about five years ago, which he now owns. He wants 13 acres. Piece of cake. Still not gonna do it.
Told him XXXX dollars and three to four weeks to get there. He's been using GoogleEarth to get close to where he "KNOWS" it will come out.
To top it off I think he's related to a certain participant here who lives in Okiehoma, based on the last name.
