Sokkia GRX2 no link between base and rover
I think the 10 year old Sokkia gps I use may have kicked the bucket today. I’ve done every step I can think of to get it up and running again, trying two different softwares (fieldgenius and Magnet field) and both of them result in no link between the base and radio once the base is started and then I connect to the rover.
What happened is it worked fine all day and at lunch I changed the battery and when I reconnected to the rover I got “modem initialization failed”. I’ve seen this error a couple of times before but I was always able to get it connected after a couple of tries, sometimes having to go through “config radio”. This time it wasn’t having it, and in the config radio I noticed some of the settings had changed so I fixed them and tried again, still failed.
I went back to the base and checked that the radio settings for it and the rover matched, found one discrepancy and fixed it. Long pressed the power button to do a “factory reset” which really just clears memory out I guess, it doesn’t typically require any setup after doing it on this GPS.
After this I can start the base and the modem initialization error is no longer happening on the rover but I get no link to the base. At this point I exited fieldgenius and started a job in magnet field and i get to the same problem. The base will connect and start and when I connect to the rover I get no link to the base.
I just realized I didn’t check the settings in magnet but I am 99.9% sure I got them correct in fieldgenius and there’s no real reason the settings would change in magnet also? No link in either one.
Tomorrow morning I will double check the settings in magnet and try everything again but I am beginning to think it’s hardware failure. Any suggestions?
Luckily I only use the GPS once every couple of weeks on average. I do almost all my work with the robot.
