Upgrading batteries for an older TS
Posted by firestix on September 12, 2019 at 4:20 pmI use a Trimble 5603 which runs off of 12v NiMh batteries via a Hirose cable. Is it possible to use Lithium batteries to do the same? (all other things being equal)

These have more than your question (the short answer is yes), but, the answer is in there

It is possible. And they last a lot longer than the NiMH’s do. The outfit I was with 2003-2011 had 5603s and the boss got busy on the internet and cobbled up some Li ion batteries. There were some issues with the internal circuitry – it was easy to blow an internal fuse in the things if you didn’t hold your mouth just right while connecting to the charger. But that was a technical issue with the Chinese source. As long as the voltage/current of the output is compatible its just electricity, all the same.
