I’m assuming you in no way resemble a fish and, thus, are safe from their talons.
@holy-cow I think I??m safe, however one was swooping in and tearing limbs from the trees overhead with their talons to bring back for construction material and I wouldn??t want to mistaken for a stick. A Goshawk is a different critter and would scalp me without hesitation or remorse.
WillyDid it you tell them that is an unsafe spot to build a nest to raise their young in?
@fairbanksls Definitely, but do they listen? No. Just about every Osprey??s nest I??ve seen out there has been on top of pole like that. The power company will actually install an elevated platform above conductors for them to use. I plan on giving them a heads up on Monday.
WillyThey are making a comeback in NJ as well. The NJDEP erects poles with platforms for them to nest on in the coastal area. We are also seeing a strong come back of bald eagles and red tail hawk. I’m from a rural area in the pines and often see all of the above in my travels.
Sadly, I believe the idea was to keep the birds from creating a high resistance open when they gap the wires with the bigger branches. More for safety of the system, Secondarily saves the ospreys until the over build of course.
That’s just defined natural selection for least ostentatious ospreys.
