Howdy, friend!

Before we get to the Forum Highlights, I just wanted to let you know that we are working on some great upgrades for the Community Forums.

The overall processes that you are used to will mostly remain in place, but we’ll be enhancing and adding a few cool features.

The usability of the forums will be increased because we’re providing handy tools and information atop each forum and topic, plus the forums index page will be vastly improved.

You’ll soon be able to dislike posts. Member profiles will be greatly improved and several of the bugs from the old profile system have been squashed.

We’re also working on the ability to bookmark your favorite threads into a list that you can review in your own profile.

If you’d like to participate in beta testing, please check out this topic. There’s still room for more beta testers as of this mailing, but eventually I’ll close the doors until we are ready to unleash the new stuff on the live website. 🙂

Happy surveying and hope you all have a great weekend!

🔥 Forum Highlights

Neighbor slain during survey

An eastern Indiana man has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for fatally shooting a neighbor while the property line between their homes was being surveyed.

Alaska SPC 22 legislation

States are planning ahead for the modernized National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) by updating coordinate system legislation. On May 17, Alaska joined Washington and Kentucky by passing HB 148, “An Act relating to the Alaska Coordinate System of 2022.”

Shadow Easement

I’ve been hired to prepare an easement for a billboard. Typical rectangle easement in the corner of a parcel. Then they want access for maintenance easement as well. And lastly, I have been asked to include the location of the shadow of the sign.

400′ AGL

I know that FAA says 400′ AGL. Most UAV’s don’t know what the surface is doing and the controller display shows height above “home” position where you launched from. If home isn’t the lowest point during your flight, then the UAV will technically be more than 400′ AGL assuming you went to the limit allowed.

Stolen equipment

I had some equipment stolen in January of 2019. Total station and GPS. Fast forward to a couple months ago…I got an email from Allen Precision Equipment. Someone contacted them about a piece of equipment they had sold me around 2018.

Most surveyors are bad boundary surveyors

This video bothers me a lot.  I guess that my problem is that he makes a pretty bold, and somewhat slanderous statement about most of the profession, but then in the video, giving his reasons, he never backs up the statement.
