Many surveyors don’t like “mortgage surveys” for several reasons. Probably the most prominent reason is due to their incredibly low price tag. Another argument is that they aren’t really surveys because no real surveying is usually performed.

Other surveyors call them “mortgage inspection reports” because of the argument above, but still charge very little to perform the service.

Regardless of where you stand on this issue, it’s hard to ignore that it is indeed a point of contention in the surveying industry.

This comic compares mortgage surveys (or whatever you want to call them) to that of a fast food chain.
